Storm damaged roofs of houses in Manjoi

The roofs of 23 houses in Kampung Manjoi here has been damaged by a storm late yesterday afternoon.
 
According victim Shahrun Zulkifli, 38, "During the incident I was sitting in front of the house. Suddenly a strong wind came with such force and blew away all the roofs of the houses here. Luckily I managed to  round up all my children and take them to safety, "he said during the interview.

According to another victim Noraini Awang, 52, the incident was the first time that has ever happened in the area. "Initially, the wind blew gently. So, I thought it was the usual wind, but about 5 minutes later, a very strong wind came, and sent my roof flying," she said.

Manjoi assemblyman Mohamad Ziad Mohamed Zainal Abidin said the incident at 6.45pm caused some roofs to collapse while others suffered some damage from the incident.
 
The 13 houses affected by the storm were on Jalan Juara, Jalan Pemimpin (four houses), Jalan Menteri (four), Jalan Perwira (1) dan Jalan Pegawai (1), he said.
 
He said four families living in rented houses in Jalan Pemimpin were forced to evacuate to Dewan Orang Ramai Manjoi today.

"They are living in evacuation centers until their roofs are repaired, and they will receive contribution from the  Social Welfare Department," he said.
   
"For the time being, the roofs are temporarily replaced with thick plastic because we cannot get new roofs today because it's a public holiday, but the dealer has promised to deliver the new roofs tomorrow," he said.

No casualties were reported .
