Manjoi State Assemblyman's Service Center launched a fund to help a retiree's huge losses after his residence in Kampung Dato Ahmad Said Tambahan 3, Manjoi, was destroyed last Saturday.

The fire destroyed the the four-bedroom residence belonging to Abd Karim Alang Ahmad, 61, at 1.40pm on the second day of Aidilfitri with an estimated loss of RM280,000.

Manjoi State Assemblyman Asmuni Awi said his party contributed RM10,000 to the fund and would seek the support of Menteri Besar, Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Member of Parliament for Tambun.

He is also the chairman of the State Islamic Religious, Industrial, Rural and Entrepreneurial Development Committee, said his target was to raise funds up to RM100,000 within a month to assist the retiree to repair his home.

"So, I hope the public will also be able to assist in contributing to this fund to help the affected people," he said when met by reporters after visiting the family at the residence in Ipoh yesterday.

Asmuni said the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the Malay Islamic and Malay Customs (MAIPk) will also assist in managing a rented house for Abd Karim's family while waiting for his home to be restored.

"However, the matter is still in discussion, especially regarding the payment period due to Abd Karim currently receiving a monthly pension of only RM400," he said.

In this regard, people wishing to extend help can contact YB Asmuni's Special Officer, Rusli Aris at 019-4457299.
